The Matthew Togami Birthing Bash

On Sunday, September 16, we celebrated Matthew Togami’s birthing day. Since Matt is a fine 49er fan, we decided that it was good and proper to consume a manly meal while watching the Detroit Lions travel to the Bay Area to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.  The Niners played very well and they won (27 – 19), check it out here.

Matt got to decide on the menu, since it was after all the day of his birthing (over 30 years in the distant past).  To whit, the menu:

  • Iceberg lettuce wedge salad with blue cheese dressing.

My home made blue cheese dressing consisted of: {Gorgonzola cheese, mayonnaise,
buttermilk, sour cream, chives, garlic, hot sauce, black pepper}.
The salad itself was comprised of: {iceberg lettuce, avocado, radish, cherry
tomatoes}. The result was awesome.

  • Gluten free lasagna.

This was Evelyn’s creation and she hit a home run. She used sliced zucchini instead of noodles. The lasagna ingredients where: {mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese,
Parmesan cheese, red wine, chopped tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste,
mushrooms, seasoning}.

  • Home made bread.

Both wheat and gluten free. We served this with sauteed garlic.
This was great with the cheeses.

  • Strawberry shortbread

There are essentially three different kinds of strawberry shortcake:
{angle food cake, shortbread, biscuit}. I decided to base my dessert on shortbread.
I then needed a custard and a sauce. The custard consisted of: {cream cheese, sour cream, condescend milk, coconut}. The sauce was : {strawberries, sugar, lemon juice}.
I layerd the shortbread with the custard and dumped the strawberry sauce on
top with mint sprigs. The result was a very nice dessert.

And we (of course) accompanied the meal with the following cheeses:

  • Gorgonzola Dolce.
  • Brillat Savarin Truffle brie.
  • 5 year aged Gouda.Humbolt
  • Fog – a goat with ash.

Evelyn and I decided to enjoy a nice bottle with the meal:
Sabragia 2006 Zinfandel, Gida’s Vineyard, Dry Creek, Sonoma Valley.
This wine is properly aged and ready to drink, right now.
